Best View on Cape Cod
Used my Monday Labor day to get in the long run that I missed yesterday. What I like about my Cape Cod running routes is that I'll start out inland than make a turn and do the last half along the water. I love running to Centerville because it means I get to run over my favorite bridge, the one where I say to whoever happens to be with me - "You know this is the best view on Cape Cod."
The view is even better when seen by foot. : )

Unprepared
On the cape for the long weekend. Planning to get my 10 mile long run done this morning. Packed everything I thought I would need. I was wrong.
Felt belt - check. Felt belt bottles - in Boston. Body Glide - in Boston.
Now the Felt Belt bottles I could run with out. I have a hand held water bottle with me. But 4 miles is my limit for a chafe free run. So my 10 miler today turned into a 4 miler and a trip the the local running store for some Body Glide.
10 miles tomorrow.

Weekday Long Run
It was a perfect morning for a run. 65 degrees and dry. I am also very excited that this is my last long Friday morning run. Long runs move to weekends following Labor Day.
No more run, shower, sit at desk all day. : )

Flood
It's been raining for three days straight. You can't tell from the picture but there are waves of water crashing across Charles Street. I wimped out on the run today and headed to the gym for some quality time on the treadmill.
(FYI - I hate the treadmill.)

Why I Run
Busy week. Golf match this morning, won 4 & 3. Championship finals on Sunday.
This meant moving long run # 7 to this afternoon following the 18 holes in the morning. Want fresh legs for Sunday. I dislike running in the afternoon. And I really hate it when it's sunny, 80 degrees, and humid. So 12 miles turned into a run/walk of 9 miles. Happy I made it through and am justifying the distance with the fact that I walked 4 miles this morning on the course.
Of course - all this activity means a treat at the Four Seas before heading back to Boston. I run for ice cream.

Wet
I was supposed to do 6 miles in the afternoon following an 18 hole practice round. But when I got to the course, it was raining.
I moved the golf to the afternoon, threw on the running cloths, and hit the road. It was wet and oppressively humid. And I hit a low wall right at mile 5 which left me scarfing sport beans and walking home. Not the worse run and not the best - but at least it's done.

Things I Would Miss
I was crossing over the BU rail road bridge when I happened to look down. White ducks everywhere. I can't figure out how they got there, why they are hanging out, or if they are visiting or planning to stay. It was one of the strangest things to see in the middle of Boston.

First run since Sunday. Weeks schedule completely out of whack thanks to the WGAM State Amateur Championship. Three tough days of golf until I lost yesterday.
Got in a quick run this morning. It's hot and humid. Makes me feel less bad that I'm not teeing it up for the finals.

Homeward Bound
Long Run # 4. I am happy to report that the troubles I had with tried legs last week are gone. Step back week worked and I felt good for the 9 miles. It wasn't easy - but good. I was cruising along at a speedy clip for miles 4 through 6. I am sure the dropping blood sugar (see below) contributed to the good feelings.
But by mile 7 my quads were starting to feel the effort. I was plugging along - not much paying attention to what was going on around me. As I approached the Longfellow - Homeward Bound started to play. I looked up at one of the best views in Boston and realized that I didn't have far to go and was actually making the turn home.
Another high point of the run - I saw Lucky again and he had a buddy.

Bridge
Week 3 is a "step back week,"aka "long" run of 5 miles. But it was rediciously hot and humid. Did a quick loop from my parents house to my golf course. The sun was out with 90plus humidity. And the mile to the course and the mile home is not shaded.
Luckily in the last mile I get to run over this bridge where there was a nice wind off the water to cool me down. I stood there for a few minutes before finishing. Was the only thing that got me to the finish.

Late run
I had set the alarm to go off at 5:30 AM so I could get a run in before my 8am golf game. But I hit the off button and decided golf was more important than running and an extra half hour of sleep would be better for me.
So by 4pm I still needed to run. Luckily the wind had picked up and some summer thunderstorms started to roll into town so the oppressive humidity was easier to deal with.
Towards the end of the run I passed by another course in town and realized that, as much as I hate afternoon runs, I was really happy I spent the morning on golf and the afternoon on running.

Thunderstorm?
Couldn't bear getting out of bed early this morning - so I put the run off till after work. There were reports of summer thunderstorms in the area. I was hoping for a nice cooling rain.
No luck.
Saw the clouds moving in across the Charles but only got a few rain drops. The oppressive humidity and the horrid blood sugars made for a very tough run.
